Association (MUYSA) Meeting Minutes
Apr. 6, 2004


Present: Don Morin, Ken Perregaux, Mark Fitzgerald, Mike Poe, Mark Murray, Sue Hamilton, Valerie Sumner, Chris Wojtowicz, Rich Mayzel, Chris Schimp, Mike Brodeur, Rob Walters, Rich Victor, Mike Arrigo, Tony Adcock.

The Meeting was called to order at 7:23 PM.

The approval of the March Minutes was passed over until a future meeting.

Don Morin, MAYS Coordinator, reported that all rosters, pass cards and schedules have been distributed. All coaches are reminded to contact Don immediately with any roster changes or games that need to be rescheduled.

Rob Walters, MUYSA Database Manager, reported that 500 +/- players had registered for the spring 2004 season. Rob is working on updating the database for submission to MYSA.

Chris Wojtowicz, MUYSA Referee Coordinator, reported that the refresher course for all referees was a success and he expressed his thanks to Don Morin for his efforts. There was a general discussion regarding posting referee names on the website as follows: First Name, Last Name (initial only). Chris will forward a schedule of referees for games to Sue Hamilton to post on the website. There was a general discussion regarding referee wages for the spring season. It was decided to pay referees on the following schedule (rates are set per game):

Don Morin gave an update for Ed Mullarkey, Grover Field Coordinator. Installation of the electrical service for the irrigation system is forthcoming. Volunteers are needed to help spread loam, seed and pick rocks at the field as well as assistance in setting up the new goals. Don has scheduled Thursday evening @ 5:30 PM as a time to accomplish these items.

Mike Brodeur, MUYSA Educational Director, reported that the coaches “G” course was a success and the model training session went well. Mike will look into scheduling another coach’s clinic in the fall. Mike reported that he and the club officers had met with Elvis Comrie, Holy Cross’s men’s varsity coach recently and that Elvis would like to offer his coaching services to the club. More specifically, Elvis runs a summer camp at Nichols College that he would like to make available to MUYSA players. After a general discussion, Mike Brodeur made a motion to provide Elvis with the club mailing labels for the U12 and older age groups so that he can send flyers to all MUYSA players regarding his summer camp offering. Val Sumner seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously. Mike made a motion to add a link to our website for Elvis’s contact information in the form of a PDF file. The motion was seconded by Ken Perregaux. The motion carried unanimously.

Ken Perregaux reminded those present that the Field Coordinators for the spring season are as follows:

Grover Field - Ed Mullarkey - U12, U14 & U16
Miscoe Hill - Mark Murray - U10
Hood Field - Ken Perregaux - U6, U7 & U8

Mark Murray, MUYSA Scholarship Committee Chairman, reported that the committee has not met yet but will be in the near future to review applications.

There was a general discussion regarding U10 Travel soccer and the registration process that needs to be completed by July 4, 2004. It was decided that the U10 coordinator would develop communication between the U10 coaches and parents and decide to pursue this as opposed to a town run program. Ken Perregaux / Mike Poe (U10G) and Mike Brodeur / Val Sumner (U10B) will be in charge of this process and report back to the club with their decision.

There was a general discussion regarding the Annual Meeting in June and the need for additional volunteers to fill some expiring officer and coordinator’s positions namely, Treasurer, Secretary, Registrar, and MAYS Coordinator. Sue Hamilton will post open positions on the website.

Mark Fitzgerald reminded all present that Gary Crompton’s Soccer 101 summer camp has been scheduled for the week of August 2-6 at Miscoe Hill School. The next MUYSA meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, May 4, 2004 at 7:15 PM at the Rose Garden, Upton, MA.
