Association (MUYSA) Meeting Minutes
March 4th, 2003


The meeting was called to order at 7:33 PM.

Present: Don Morin, Mark Fitzgerald, Mike Brodeur, Ken Perregaux, Keith Jackson, David Rizzo, Gordon Scott, Rich Mayzel, Steve Niedzialkoski, Chris Wojtowicz, Mike Arrigo, Brian Mazar, Hank Eaton, Mark Murray, Steve Neidzialkoski, Ed Mullarkey, Chris Wojtowicz, Gene Peterman, Mike Garuti, Sue Hamilton.

Brian Mazar, MUYSA President, made a motion to approve the February Minutes as written. Don Morin seconded. The motion carried unanimously.

Brian Mazar introduced and welcomed Sue Hamilton to the meeting and the MUYSA organization. Sue will be helping out with MUYSA promotional and public relations related duties. All those present welcomed Sue as well.

Brian Mazar confirmed that MUYSA scholarship applications are available at the high school. He will follow up with Walt Ramsey, Scholarship Committee Chairman, to ensure timely review of the applications.

Mark Fitzgerald presented two alternatives for coach's shirts. There was a general discussion regarding distribution, cost and style. There was a majority vote regarding type and style. Mike Brodeur made a motion to purchase 100 shirts to be distributed to all active coaches, one (1) shirt every two (2) years, at the sole cost and expense to the club. Ken Perregaux seconded the motion. The motion carried by a majority. Mark Fitzgerald will place the order and distribute.

Ed Mullarkey, Grover Field Coordinator (formerly known as Colonial Field), made a motion for MUYSA to accept the annual fertilization proposal as submitted by Tru- Green. Mike Brodeur seconded the motion. Ed reviewed the practice schedule for April. There was a general discussion regarding aeration and slice seeding the field. Hank Eaton volunteered his equipment to accomplish this. Ed and Hank will coordinate.

Brian Mazar announced that a field coordinator position has not been filled for Miscoe Hill. Mark Murray volunteered to be the field coordinator.

Brian Mazar said he had spoken to a local costume jewelry manufacturer regarding appreciation pins for all who participate in spring soccer. A quote is forthcoming.

Don Morin, MAYS Coordinator, updated everyone with regards to spring schedules, which should be distributed at the April 1 meeting. Don commented that it appears there will be a seven (7) week schedule with nine games being played during that time (U12 & above).

Brian Mazar reminded age group coordinators that there are still some outstanding Kid's Safe forms. MUYSA officers and the Registrar will review this list in detail after the meeting.

There was a general discussion of the U6, U7, U8 programs and the 4 v 4 format for the U7 & U8 participants. It was noted that U6 participants need to be currently enrolled in Kindergarten in order to play this spring. Brian Mazar will work with Sue Hamilton on an advertisement to be run in the local papers regarding open enrollment of the younger age groups for the spring season.

Mike Brodeur, MUYSA Educational Director, announced that over 30 kids participated in the "Vacation Days Soccer Clinic" that was held on February 21st at the Habitat. Gary Crompton instructed three sessions with different age groups during the day. Mike announced that a coaches "Goal Keepers Clinic" has been scheduled for April 5th at the Habitat from 4-6 PM. Ken Perregaux made a suggestion that the session be videotaped for future reference. Mike stated that only 9 coaches from town had signed up for the "E Course" scheduled for March 22-23 at Miscoe Hill. Mike has opened the clinic to neighboring towns.

Brian Mazar reminded all present to get their equipment requests to Chris Schimp, MUYSA Equipment Coordinator, as soon as possible.

Steve Neidzialkoski, MUYSA Referee Coordinator, announced that the Referee Clinic scheduled for March 22nd has 18 participants enrolled. The clinic has been opened to 5th graders as well as 6th graders. There are 7 slots still available. Steve will take care of ordering Referee uniforms and distribute to all who pass the course. Steve will be running a refresher class for all referees on every Monday night in March from 8-9 PM at the Miscoe Hill lower gym. All referees are encouraged to participate in at least 2 of the 4 refresher classes.

Mark Fitzgerald, MUYSA Secretary, reported that the additional uniforms ordered for the spring are in at the Soccer Spot. There will be a MUYSA general pick-up night scheduled for Tuesday, March 25th, from 6-9 PM.

Brian Mazar reminded everyone of the rules for using the Miscoe Hill gym during the month of March for practice. Keep the balls low & no fooling around in the halls etc.

Hank Eaton, MUYSA registrar, will finalize the rosters for the spring season.

Brian Mazar stated that the Boston Breakers marketing office contacted him. Joe Cummings, the Breakers General Manager, is trying to schedule to attend our next meeting to present discount group ticket options for MUYSA.
