Association (MUYSA) Meeting Minutes
June 3, 2003

 

Present: Don Morin, Mark Fitzgerald, Ken Perregaux, Brian Mazar, Mark Murray, Steve Neidzialkoski, Dave Rizzo, Jim Housekeeper, Mike Brodeur, Keith Jackson, Gene Peterman, Gordon Scott, Sue Hamilton, Chris Schimp, Peter Bloznalis, Artie DiGregorio.

The Meeting was called to order at 7:30 PM.

Brian Mazar noted that the Minutes of the May meeting were in draft form and that they will be presented at the next meeting to be approved.

Don Morin reported that the irrigation well installed at Grover Field was producing 100 gallons per minute. Irrigation quotes are being obtained. Don reported that Ed Mullarkey is working with Brian Massey on the possibility of creating some off street parking.

Steve Neidzialkoski reported that the Nipmuc Football Club has performed the scheduled seeding/fertilization of Miscoe Hill Field and practice area (MUYSA game area). Steve made a motion that MUYSA pay $486.00 towards this project (half the total cost). Jim Housekeeper seconded the motion. After a general discussion the motion passed unanimously.

Brian Mazar distributed the new MUYSA Appreciation Pins to all age group coordinators. These pins are to be handed out to every participant in the spring program. Gene Peterman will handle the inventory of Pins and Patches. All coaches participating in tournaments this year can contact Gene for Pins and/or Patches.

Don Morin, CMYSL Coordinator, stated that team divisional selections need to be submitted by July 3rd for the fall 2003 season. Finalized rosters need to be submitted in August. Registration forms are available on the website. Sue Hamilton will place an announcement in the local papers. The fall season is scheduled to begin the 1st Saturday in September and continue for 9 weeks. There will be no Division 1 games Columbus Day weekend. Schedules will be determined via the large or small town placements.

There was a general discussion regarding travel for the U10 fall program. Steve Neidzialkoski made a motion to field one (1) U10B and one (1) U10G travel team for CMYSL this fall. Keith Jackson seconded the motion. There was a lengthy general discussion. The motion was put to the floor and did not pass. Mike Brodeur made a motion that the number of travel teams entered for the fall program would be determined by the ranking system as set forth in MUYSA's newly adopted by-laws. Artie DiGregorio seconded the motion. There was a general discussion. Mike Brodeur withdrew his motion. Ken Perregaux made a motion that this discussion on U10 Travel for the fall 2003 be tabled for this year and discussions for next fall (2004) begin in January 2004. Peter Bloznalis seconded the motion. The motion carried.

There was a general discussion of the MAYS referees this spring season. Don Morin encouraged everyone to provide him with feedback so he could keep MAYS informed with issues.

It was noted that the U6 skills format and the U7 skills practice and small sided game format be continued for the fall 2004 season.

There was a general discussion about the adoption of the By Laws and Rules of the Club which have been posted in draft form on the MUYSA website for over six months now. Mark Murray made the motion to accept the By Laws and Rules of the Club as written. Jim Housekeeper seconded the motion. The motion carried unanimously. Mike Brodeur made the motion to amend the rating sheets as listed in the By Laws by removing the categories "Heading & Anticipation" and replacing them with "Supporting & Marking". Artie DiGregorio seconded the motion. The motion carried unanimously.

Mark Fitzgerald reported that Mass Electric had quoted $4,000 as a cost to bring power up to the Kiwanis Beach soccer field from the lower lot area. Mark was unsure if the town had funds to pay for this work but he will check into it and report back to the club.

Mark Fitzgerald made a motion that MUYSA contribute $10,000 to the West River Street soccer field project if and only if the Town of Upton allocates and spends $45,000 for the development of the field. Mike Brodeur seconded the motion. There was a general discussion. The motion carried unanimously.

Mike Brodeur, MUYSA Educational Coordinator, reported that he was trying to organize a "women's only" "G" or "F" coaching license program for this fall with either Holliston and/or Grafton.

Chris Schimp, MUYSA Equipment Coordinator, gave an update on equipment inventories. Chris made a motion to purchase five (5) dozen pinnies. Mark Fitzgerald seconded the motion. There was a general discussion. The motion carried unanimously.

Steve Neidzialkoski, MUYSA Referee Coordinator, reported on the referee forms received back from coaches. He thought that this program was off to a good start. Steve stated that he will be stepping down from this position and someone would need to be in place for the fall 2003 season. It was noted that the position would be advertised as available on the website.

Mark Fitzgerald reminded those present that Soccer 101 Camps have been scheduled for the week of July 28 - August 1st. This is the third season for this MUYSA sponsored program to be held at Miscoe Hill. It was also noted that Jim Grant's soccer camp will be held August 4th - 8th at Nipmuc High School.

Brian Mazar recapped the status of MUYSA officer and coordinator positions as follows:

President, Brian Mazar, stepping down.
Treasurer, Don Morin, One (1) year remaining on term.
Secretary, Mark Fitzgerald, One (1) year remaining on term.
Registrar, Hank Eaton, Two (2) years remaining on term.

MUYSA Coordinators:

Educational Coordinator, Mike Brodeur, One (1) year remaining on term.
Equipment Coordinator, Chris Schimp, Two (2) years remaining on term.
Refereee Coordinator, Steve Neidzialkoski, stepping down.
CMYSL Coordinator, Don Morin, Term expired - will assist this fall - stepping down.
MAYS Coordinator, Don Morin, One (1) year remaining on term.
Public Relations Coordinator, Sue Hamilton, Two (2) years remaining on term.

Brian Mazar summarized the role as MUYSA President. Steve Neidzialkoski summarized the role of MUYSA Referee Coordinator.

Mike Brodeur nominated Ken Perregaux for a three (3) year term as MUYSA President. Steve Neidzialkoski seconded the motion. Jim Housekeeper nominated Don Morin for a three (3) year term as MUYSA President. Mark Murray seconded the motion. There was a general discussion on the nominations after which Don Morin withdrew his name from consideration. The motion by Jim Housekeeper was withdrawn. The motion to elect Ken Perregaux for a three (3) year term as MUYSA President carried unanimously.

Don Morin, MAYS & CMYSL Coordinator, requested that someone assist and train with him over the next year. Mike Brodeur volunteered to assist over the next year. Ken Perregaux made the motion have Mike Brodeur assist in the CMYSL Coordinator's position with Don Morin beginning this fall 2003. Hank Eaton seconded the motion. The motion carried unanimously.

Hank Eaton proposed that MUYSA take over his bulk rate stamp arrangement with the post office. Don Morin mentioned that the club had a similar arrangement in the past and will look into the details to accomplish this with Hank.

The next MUYSA meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, July 1st, 2003 at 7:15 PM at the Rose Garden.
