Association (MUYSA) Meeting Minutes
April 1, 2003
The meeting was called to order at 7:25
Brian Mazar, MUYSA President, introduced and welcomed Joe Cummings former MUYSA President and current General Manager of the WUSA Boston Breakers. Joe presented special group ticket packages to the club for the coming 2003 spring season. In appreciation of Joe’s past contributions to the club, Brian presented Joe with a MUYSA coach’s shirt.
Brian Mazar made a motion to approve the March Minutes as written. Don Morin seconded. The motion carried unanimously.
Brian Mazar confirmed that MUYSA scholarship applications are available at the high school. He will follow up with Walt Ramsey, Scholarship Committee Chairman, to ensure timely review of the applications.
Mark Fitzgerald, MUYSA Secretary, distributed coach’s shirts to all present.
Ed Mullarkey, Grover Field Coordinator (formerly known as Colonial Field), mentioned he was waiting for the field to dry in order to begin the field irrigation project. Ed will be in contact with Brian Massey with regards to the parking plans for this spring.
Appreciation pins for players was tabled until next meeting.
Don Morin, MAYS Coordinator, distributed schedules for spring and updated everyone with regards to MAYS policies. Please refer to the website, www.muysa.org, for a complete summary of the spring MAYS policies as prepared by Don.
Brian Mazar reviewed the field coordinators current playing status for the spring as follows:
Kiwanis Mike Brodeur Offline until May
All fields are checked several times per week to determine playability.
Brian Mazar announced that the football program requested that MUYSA contribute a portion of the cost ($350.00) to reseed the Miscoe Hill Field. Mark Fitzgerald suggested that the practice area be addressed as well. Brian will discuss this issue with the football program contact, Steve Neidzialkoski.
Mark Fitzgerald, as Upton Parks & Recreation Secretary, announced that final approval has been received from the Upton Conservation Commission with regards to the new soccer field to be constructed on town owned land located on West River Street. Mark stated that the Rec Com will be bidding the job out and asking for funds to complete the project from the towns’ taxpayers.
There was a general discussion of the coaches “E Course” that took place on March 22-23, at Miscoe Hill. It was reported that a few cancellations were made at the last minute. Bob Thorton made a motion that a deposit be required for all coaches registered to take any coaches course, equal to the fee charged per person by MYSA, which will be refunded in full upon completion of the course. Don Morin seconded the motion. The motion carried unanimously.
Brian Mazar announced that the coaches “Goal Keepers Clinic” scheduled for April 5th at the Habitat has a time change. It will be from 3-5 PM instead of 4-6 PM.
Brian Mazar announced that Chris Schimp, MUYSA Equipment Coordinator, has scheduled Saturday, April 5th, from 8 AM – 12:00 PM for equipment pick up at his house.
Brian Mazar announced that currently we have forty-six (46) “Grade 11” referees.
Mark Fitzgerald announced that Soccer 101 Camps have been scheduled for the week of July 28 – August 1st. This is the third season for this MUYSA sponsored program to be held at Miscoe Hill. It was also noted that Jim Grant’s soccer camp will be held August 4th – 8th at Nipmuc High School.
Brian Mazar announced that AJ Byrne has offered to instruct a three (3) hour class on first aid for MUYSA coaches. Brian recommended we schedule this for the near future.
Mark Fitzgerald reported that the uniform distribution at the Soccer Spot went smooth. Plenty of uniforms in all sizes are currently in stock.
The next MUYSA meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, May 6th, 2003 at 7:15
PM at the Rose Garden.
